How to unlock the value of Edtech data

Charlotte Bailey Chief Executive Officer
Publish date: 2nd August 2023

With over 25 Edtech unicorn start-ups valued at over $1 billion, and the US playing HQ to 53% of the world’s Edtech companies, the rapid growth of the market – and the competition within – continues. With more and more data being captured on a daily basis, one question is constantly being asked: “Is the true value of the data ever actually harnessed?”

How are Edtech’s solving the centralization of data

From the surge in e-learning platforms to accommodate the shift to a more remote working model, to management information systems that support administrative functions, Edtechs have trailblazed a traditionally pen-and-paper sector into one that’s now reaping the rewards of a digital-first approach. Edtech vendors have seemingly solved one of the sector’s biggest headaches overnight, centralizing vast amounts of data whilst upholding compliance to stringent data security legislations.

Yet being able to access a student’s performance record, view real-time information on their behaviour and absences, and retrieve a log of parent-school communications all from the same digital environment might ‘save’ a huge amount of time, but they are solutions that are only skimming the surface of their potential.

Why data alone isn’t enough

Consider that in the UK, 41% of teachers have stated that their school is collecting ‘more data’ than they are ‘regularly able to make use of’. It’s a starker picture for school leaders, with 90% calling ‘analyzing data’ a ‘major issue’ impacting their school.

Headteachers generally do not have the budget to hire data analysts, and their office administration teams are already flat-out helping in the smooth running of the school. They need the data to be turned into meaningful, actionable insights.

Enter the Edtech providers who can help turn their data into meaningful and actionable insights. This typically starts with data visualization, such as a dashboard, a way of presenting information in a way that can be quickly and easily consumed by a user and subsequently drive data decisions.

How Edtech can benefit from Embedded Analytics

When analytics are embedded into Edtech platforms, the information is delivered directly to the user within the application, avoiding the “swivel chair” moment when they need to jump between applications. The information is also focused to the task in hand.

For example, think of an entire school's end-of-semester assessment results brought to life on a user-friendly dashboard. Senior leaders have an overview of entire organizational performance at their fingertips, the ability to run a variety of reports to drill-down further into why a particular year group performed better this semester than the last. Individual teachers gain a bank of results presented in intuitive dashboards and charts, adding value to the data and helping identify trends to make appropriate adjustments for next time.

Scope to harness the power of Edtech data

The potential that Edtech data holds isn’t only limited to learner attainment. Our data-driven tools embed directly into a range of SaaS applications to promote a more holistic approach to the learning journey. Automized reports can generate actionable insight on budgets to keep spending on track, supported by predictive analytics to inform future funding allocations and bid writing.

Whilst visualization of all this data is hugely powerful, it’s imperative that it’s only in front of the eyes it’s intended for. Panintelligence can leverage your applications user-level authorisation authorization and authentication to ensure information is both secure and protected, and users have peace of mind.

Adding value to SaaS for education applications

Digital transformation is changing the way students learn, teacher’s teach and school administrations manage their organizations. Edtech companies are delivering real tangible value across the entire education spectrum and access to timely, relevant information is playing an important role.

Visualization of data gives it a meaning. It’s time the breadth of information locked away in our Edtechs is given the analytics it needs to paint the most detailed picture of problems and opportunities.

We’ve got the key. Are you ready to turn it and unlock the true potential of Edtech data? Get in touch with our team to learn how you can elevate your Edtech offering, or try the power of Pi for yourself with a free demo! After all, every day’s a school day.

Five Reports, Ten Opinions and Zero Clarity: How Leaders Scale Without Operational Chaos

There is a moment most CEOs, COOs and operational leaders recognise instantly, five reports, ten opinions and zero clarity. The numbers are not obviously wrong, but no one is completely confident either, and the room goes quiet in that very specific way that signals shared discomfort rather than disagreement. If you have ever found yourself silently recalculating the story in your head while a […]

International Women’s Day, Historical Data Bias and Why Context Matters

International Women’s Day is a chance to celebrate progress and to reflect on how decisions are made today. One of the most influential forces shaping those decisions is data. Historical data bias is not about blame or criticism. It is about recognising that the world has changed faster than many of our datasets.  Data captures […]
