Not Moving Data Was the Right Answer, Until It Wasn’t : Meet PiConnect

Charlotte Bailey Chief Executive Officer
Publish date: 26th March 2026

Making difficult product decisions is part of growing up as a product company, and it is rarely comfortable.

For years at Panintelligence we have been clear and consistent in our position: we do not move customer data. That principle has served us well. It has built trust, reduced risk, and aligned strongly with organisations that value control, governance, and keeping analytics close to the source.

But markets do not stand still, and neither can we.

The Market Shift: Changing Customer Needs Around Data

Over the past eighteen months a clear pattern has emerged in conversations with prospects and customers. Many organisations want modern analytics and insight, but they do not have a refined data strategy. They do not have the skills in house to build and manage one, and they are increasingly priced out of traditional enterprise data warehouses.

The result is frustration. Data is spread across systems, analytics ambitions stall, and business teams are blocked not by lack of intent, but by lack of accessible foundations.

Listening properly to that feedback means being willing to challenge long held positions. For us, that has meant accepting that while not moving data remains the right answer for many customers, it is not the right answer for all.

That is why we are building PiConnect , our ETL and data warehouse capability. Not as a contradiction of our values, but as an extension of them.

What PiConnect Is :

It is important to be clear: PiConnect  is not mandatory. Customers who already have a data warehouse, strong data skills, or a well established data strategy do not need it. Panintelligence continues to work exactly as it always has in those environments. PiConnect  exists as an optional extension, designed to help organisations that need support establishing data foundations, not to replace existing approaches.

The PiConnect name is intentional, and the analogy matters. A spider does not create the insects it catches, and it does not replace the environment around it. Instead, it builds a web that connects, senses, and holds things together in an efficient and resilient way. The value is not in moving everything itself, but in how the web enables connection, structure, and control.

PiConnect  follows the same principle. It is not about owning all of the data or forcing it into a single rigid structure. It is about creating a lightweight but robust web across disparate data sources, shaping and preparing data where needed, and making it usable for analytics without requiring enterprise scale investment or specialist skills.

In practice, PiConnect  can extract and transform data from multiple systems, bring it together when necessary, and make it analytics ready. Just as importantly, it can coexist with other approaches. Data can stay in source systems, live in a customer managed warehouse, or flow through PiConnect , depending on what makes sense for that organisation.

The Bigger Vision: Panintelligence as an Orchestration Layer

Alongside this, our longer term vision remains clear: Panintelligence as an orchestration layer that sits above and across the data estate. Whether data stays in source systems, lives in an existing warehouse, or flows through PiConnect , our role is to orchestrate how that data is governed, prepared, analysed, and turned into decisions. We are not trying to replace every part of the data stack. We are focused on reducing friction between them and making analytics achievable without forcing organisations into a single, rigid model. For customers who may lack the skills or capacity to get started, we also offer consultancy services to support the initial setup. This includes helping to design the right approach, configure data flows, and establish strong foundations, so teams can move quickly without taking on unnecessary complexity or long-term dependency.

This flexibility matters even more when considering different use cases. For internal analytics teams, PiConnect can provide a fast, pragmatic way to establish data foundations and unlock insight without waiting for a perfect enterprise data strategy. For product and software vendors distributing analytics to their own customers, PiConnect can act as a scalable, repeatable data layer that simplifies onboarding, reduces implementation effort, and supports multi tenant analytics without pushing complexity onto end customers. The same orchestration principles apply, but the constraints, commercial models, and outcomes are very different.

Alongside our product evolution, we are also evolving how we work. We are refining our delivery methodologies, strengthening our internal controls, and raising the bar on security and governance across the business. As part of this, we are actively working towards ISO 27001 certification in the coming months. This is not specific to PiConnect . It benefits every Panintelligence customer, regardless of architecture or deployment model, reinforcing our commitment to trust, rigour, and responsible growth as we scale.

Why PiConnect Matters Now

PiConnect exists to meet customers where they are today. It offers a pragmatic, cost conscious way to establish data foundations when existing options are too expensive, too complex, or simply unrealistic given available skills.

This is not about chasing trends or bolting on technology for the sake of it. It is about recognising a genuine market gap and responding responsibly, in a way that stays true to our focus on accessible analytics, transparency, and customer outcomes.

If this resonates, if you recognise your organisation in these challenges, or if you are navigating similar trade offs between ambition, capability, and cost, we would welcome a conversation. Get in touch with us for a chat about how Panintelligence and PiConnect could support your next step.
