Pall-Ex develops dynamic dashboard reporting for freight distribution

The Pall-Ex Group is an award leading provider of palletised freight distribution services in the UK and Europe. Via a network of around 100 leading UK hauliers, and its hub and spoke model, Pall-Ex is driving innovation and efficiency in the industry. They also have a strong commitment to the environment and actively employ a number of strategies to reduce the impact of haulage. Pall-Ex uses its own web-based IT system called TWINE which helps customers to quickly and easily manage all aspects of shipping, giving them the ability to track and trace deliveries. This custom built system includes a vast data warehouse which records all pallets across the network and produces reports for regional and European partner managers.

Dynamic reporting

Sean Sherwin-Smith, Group Director of IT, at Pall-Ex said “Feedback from our European partners and UK managers indicated we needed to supplement our existing reporting with something more dynamic. We record a large amount of data and it can be difficult to translate that into something that is easy to digest. After seeing the dashboard reporting in action at Catalina I asked for a demonstration from Panintelligence.” After creating a proof of concept using Pall-Ex data, Panintelligence worked with the Pall-Ex team to develop a more extensive dashboard reporting connected to the TWINE data warehouse.

A standard template was created using a series of uniform KPIs to offer UK regional managers a summarised view of their data in an easy to read format. This set of tools also gives Pall-Ex the ability to discuss the current situation with people across their network in a consistent and uniform manner. Once the dashboard reporting in the UK has been rolled out, the European freight networks will receive customised versions to suit the unique requirements of distribution in their respective region.
